Star Reef Battery and Mullock Dump, 2015
There were at least three stamp batteries erected at this site over a period of about 40 years, and the foundations in the foreground probably relate to a 10-head battery erected in 1907 in this once-prolific mining area.
The foundations themselves are of interest. The two bases for the mortar boxes can clearly be seen with their heavy timber bases and protruding bolts, and in the foreground is part of the base of the large steam engine.
This is the most complete remaining relic of Tarnagulla's golden era stamp batteries.
The mullock heap to the rear was created by the workings on the Star Reef shaft itself, which is located on the other side of the mullock heap.
