Bendigo Consols Company on Poverty Reef, 1899.

Bendigo Consols Company on Poverty Reef, 1899.

This photograph was taken in 1899, not long after the preceding photograph.
The photograph is looking south-west, and the poppet head and mine buildings are obstructing the line of view to the flour mill and perhaps the Victoria Theatre and other buildings in the town.
The most notable feature of the photograph is the rapid growth of the cyanide extraction works which, in the space of the few short months following the previous photograph, have developed into a very large and expansive operation.
Also of interest is the large acetylene lamp suspended high above the works.
