WRONG - In 1907 a Traralgon doctor purchased the first car in the district. Details in the newspaper report below.
Additional Information:
A MOTOR CAR.—During the past few days Dr. Horne, accompanied by Mr T. G. Cobbledick, visited Melbourne, and purchased a De Dion motor car, 8 horse power. We believe this is the first car sold in the district, and it will no doubt be of great value to the doctor in attending patients at a distance. The car was driven from Melbourne by Dr. Horne, so that he had ample opportunity of testing its capabilities in a long journey. Mr Cobbledick, who has been appointed agent, intends keeping all accessories in stock, and will be pleased to give particulars to anyone desiring same. With the great advance in the price of horse feed, there is every probability of motors coming into general use, as they can be purchased at almost the same figure as a good turnout. It is also said they are more economical than keeping horses, for they only need "feeding" while in use.
