WRONG - Ned Stringer and his party found alluvial gold at Stringer's Creek (later known as Walhalla) in December 1862 but it wasn't reported until January 1863. The first reef of gold was discovered at Walhalla in February 1863. The Ned Stringer memorial at Toongabbie is located where he died later that same year.
