Dinner with Mrs Landy

The Zonta Club of Melbourne recently had Mrs Landy, wife of the Governor, as a guest speaker at our regular montly meeting.  Mrs Landy shared with us her experiences in moving into Government House, and also her much changed and busy life.  A number of interesting aspects of her life were discussed, such as :

  • She is almost used to the fanfare that plays when she enters the government house ball room.
  • She does quite a lot of travel following her husband's promise to visit all of Victoria.
  • She no longer needs to cook or wash (a very favourable aspect of her role, in our opinion)
Another interesting aspect of her visit was the protocol involved behind her coming.  Thelma (below left) sent an invitation over 12 months ago to Government House.  The last couple of months have involved various preparations  for the visit.  The evening was a combined effort, with Pat (below middle) being the MC, Thelma introducing Mrs Landy and Gail (right), our President, thanking Mrs Landy for her company and interesting speech.
