The
Zonta Club of Melbourne is a member of Zonta
International, a world-wide service organisation of executives in
business and the professions working together to advance the status of
women.
In order to facilitate the handling of the organisation's business, the world is divided into 29 Districts and one region. Each district is divided into Areas. The Zonta Club of Melbourne is currently part of District 23, Area 1. The Zonta Club of Melbourne Inc. (ABN 75413093523) was formed in 1966 by a diverse and motivated group of women, being sponsored, organised and mentored by the Toronto 1 Club. More information about the women who formed the club, and the contribution of the club over the last thirty-six years can be found in the Archives. Sadly, one of the founding members of the club has recently passed away. Dr Lorna Lloyd-Green was a prominent Melbourne gynaecologist who lived every one of her 92 years to its full potential. The club continues today with a wide range of women contributing to the continuing development of the club, its projects, fundraising events and fellowship. Being a part of the wider Zonta community also provides many opportunities to contribute to the development of women, those who are Australian and International, Poor and Rich, Educated and Not. This may be done via various area, district and international events, including the Zonta Convention to be held in Melbourne in 2006. |

Members attend current monthly meetings of the club, contribute to individual service areas such as the Status of Women, the United Nations, Public Affairs and specific locally sponsored projects. One of these committees was recently pleased to hear the progress of their nomination for the YWPA Award (Young Women in Public Affairs Award). Abigael Ogada-Osir has recently received the highest possible honour of being chosen as one of the five international winners. |
