Dear.....
I am writing to you to demand action over the number of trucks using our residential streets in Yarraville. The Victorian EPA has stated "that there are no safe levels of exposure to diesel emissions". The EPA has found Francis Street in Yarraville to be one of the most polluted streets in Victoria, if not the entire country. But despite this knowledge your Government still allows up to 12,000 trucks per day use the residential streets of Yarraville and its surrounding areas.
I appreciate that your Government has recently introduced a night and weekend curfew on Francis Street. However this curfew really does very little to address the levels of diesel emissions that we are being subjected to in this area. The curfew does absolutely nothing about the number of trucks using Francis street during the day when children are attending local schools, the Yarraville Community Centre is open for business and residents are often home and unable to even open a window. Your curfew even still allows petrol and chemical tankers to use Francis street even though they could be forced down Footscray Road and onto City Link
I demand that your government take immediate action to stop through trucks from using our residential streets, every day and every night. Trucks without legitimate business in our neighbourhood should be using Footscray Road, City Link, West Gate Freeway and the Western Ring Road.
We live in a safe Labour seat, we continually elect your party back into office but in return you do nothing to protect us from these trucks. You should be ashamed of your lack of real action. In opposition you were outraged over this issue and now you have power you do almost nothing.
