Blockade a huge success.

Angry and frustrated residents took to the streets on Monday April 29th to blockade the intersection of Francis St and Williamstown Rd. The intersection was closed to all traffic for half an hour during the morning peak hour. Normally during this period well over 100 trucks pass through the intersection, one of Melbourne's busiest. For half an hour people power ensured Williamstown Rd and Francis St were at their quietest in living memory. The peaceful protest was well attended by media, with all evening news services covering the blockade.

Organisers were very pleased with the turn out for the blockade and hoped that the action would put pressure on the Government to find real solutions. The YRTG group aims to get a total ban on through trucks (those without a destination in the local area) using residential streets. The trucks should be forced onto Footscray Rd, City Link and the Westgate Freeway.
