Our Aims

1. To raise community awareness about the health risks associated with diesel particles, exposure to noise pollution, and the hazards of transporting dangerous goods through residential areas

2. To eliminate 'through trucks' from using our residential streets as a thoroughfare

3. To have Francis Street downgraded from 'State Highway" classification and to return it to the people of Yarraville

4. To lobby the government and other bodies to take action on these issues.

5.To find a solution that does not push this problem from one residential street onto another.

Our primary aim is to establish a truck traffic management plan for through traffic in residential streets that will benefit both residents and local commercial and truck transport industries. It has been estimated that up to 80% of trucks using our residential streets are 'through trucks'- trucks that do not have a local destination and are simply using our suburb as a short cut or to avoid City Link tolls. Since City Link was built we have seen a huge increase in the number of trucks using our streets.

YRTG wants a ban on these 'through trucks' through the restriction of trucks over 6 tonne gross capacity unless the trucks have a local destination serving industries in the designated local area. We want his designated area to be bounded by Geelong Road, Cemetery Road, Westgate Freeway, Whitehall Street and Moore Street. Please see the map below.
