If you are thinking of taking up the offer of a fantastic day out, and coming
on a Yarra trip then you are also probably wondering what you do or don't need
to bring with you. Here's a list of pointers to help you out:
What to bring on a trip!
 | Water to drink - river water is not safe to drink!
 | Lunch-wrapped in a plastic bag to water-proof it.
 | Snacks - to keep up your energy and to warm you up if you have a swim.
 | A change of clothes to change into at the end.
 | A towel to dry off with and get changed under. (very little privacy or
facilities on river banks)
 | A rain coat for the end of the trip on wet or overcast days.
 | Sunscreen - you shouldn't forget to slip slop
slap!!!
 | A waterproof container for your electronic car keys or mobile. |
What to wear!
 | Wet suits are good but long sleeve ones maybe a bit restrictive on your
arm movements. They also make toilet breaks somewhat difficult.
 | Do you self a favour, get some thermal underwear, both long sleeve tops
and pants
 | On cold days, woollen jumpers (tight weave-old school jumpers) are
great.
 | Woollen socks and beanies (thin ones to get under the helmet).
 | Polar fleece is very good as well for beanies and over the top of
thermals.
 | Taking additional warm gear in a waterproof bag is good planning.
 | If you have a water/wind proof jacket that would be suitable to paddle in,
bring it. |
Footwear
 | Bare feet are not an option on a river.
 | Footwear that water will not damage is good.
 | Wetsuit booties are best, aqua shoes, runners, etc are fine. |
Glasses
 | Glasses are easily lost in water. A string or elastic attaching them to you will save you money. |
Don'ts
 | Try not to wear cotton even on hot day trips, it holds water and is very
cold.
 | Don't bring lots of valuables to leave in the car.
 | Don't forget your car keys when we do the car shuffles. |
