I reject outright the ridiculous statements made in The Australian's editorial on the republic campaign (4/3).Young Australians for a Republic have been on the ground across Australia for the past three weeks working towards a yes vote. Our Universities Orientation program was an unqualified success, despite the signifcant barriers we faced in getting our message across- such as limited finacial resources. Real ordinary people signed up many hundreds of real ordinary members. We gave away several thousand of our "Rooting for the Republic" condoms away, and helped educate thousands about the issues they will have to make a decision on in November. In recent weeks the media in general have displayed an unusual level of ignorance as to what it actually happening out there. Many media organisations still do not recognise Young Australians for a Republic exist - despite our repeated attempts to publicise ourselves, and our endorsement as the offical youth group in the Yes Coalition. But for all those in doubt, let it be known we are out there shouting the message where it counts- on the ground- loud and clear.
