Friends of Yarran Dheran

Yarran Dheran Reserve is owned and managed by the Whitehorse City Council. Whitehorse undertake many major and minor maintenance tasks for Yarran Dheran Reserve.

The Yarran Dheran Advisory Committee is appointed by Whitehorse Council to advise Council on tasks required at Yarran Dheran, to manage the Information Centre, to undertake working bees. The committee’s terms of reference are listed elsewhere.

The committee consists of volunteers. It relies on the Friends of Yarran Dheran to help maintain Yarran Dheran as a beautiful natural bush reserve for use by the community.

The Friends of Yarran Dheran are also volunteers who are happy to do specific tasks at Yarran Dheran, often on an irregular basis. Some of our Friends open the Information Centre on Sunday afternoons between 2.00pm and 5.00pm. Others take part in working bees on the first Sunday morning of each month from 10 am onwards. Others are interested in specific tasks of value to the Reserve. Three of our Friends were rostered to turn on the sprinklers during the drought to keep the ferns in Fern Gully alive during the summer of 2002-3. One of the Friends undertakes water quality tests of the Mullum Mullum Creek. We are looking for someone to catalogue the poster collection in the Information Centre, and for someone to compile a history of Yaran Dheran

We could not manage the Reserve without the help of volunteers and we always have room for more!
