The floor

We decided to put down a particleboard floor rather than tongue and groove floorboards for two reasons.  A full particleboard floor is easier and safer to work on than having to straddle bare joists or get around on temporally laid floor boards, particularly when working with heights.  Also, nailing down a particleboard floor as a full platform is faster and easier than nailing individual floorboards in between erected walls.  As with carpet etc, low profile tongue and groove timber flooring can be put down over the particleboard on or some time after completion, which we will probably do.

Laying out and nailing down the particleboard sheets was deemed to be a fairly straight forward job for three people.  Early start, get the job done and shoot through.  In reality, with all the carrying, sawing, moving, squatting bending, nailing and sitting - a one-day non-stop workout.  It was quite a physical and tiring job and at the end of the day we were knackered.

Three weeks later the particleboard floor was painted with two coats of marine grade varnish for protection against the elements.  Some say this was not necessary, but.....
