District Governor Visit
On Tuesday 1st September District Governor Colin Muir and Pauline Muir joined us for dinner as part of the official DG Club visit program. With only a few apologies Club members filled the room to hear DG Colin Muir speak about our work in the local community as a Rotary Club and as Rotarians working with other Rotarians in our District.
DG Colin Muir started with a toast to recognise members of The Rotary Club of Escondido in District 5340 California.
A number of our Club members were also recognised for their contributions to various Rotary Programs in our District. DG Colin spoke about the strengths of our Club which included our support of the local community, our support of Foundation and Centurion and our contribution to help eradicate Polio.
DG Colin spoke about our enthusiasm and the projects that are helping to shape our Club like our first International project, our work and support with the Longhorns and our increasing involvement with the Yarraville Arts Festival. Looking to the future DG Colin spoke about the importance of Club membership and planning for the future, family and friends of Rotary and Vocational Service as important parts or Rotary that we should include in our Club Plans.
DG Colin spoke about the five core values (water and sanitation; health and hunger; literacy; youth service & public image) reflected in the goals of Rotary International and the four way test and asked “Consider in the next 12 months how the future of Rotary is in your hands”.
Speaking about Foundation and its importance DG Colin spoke about how Foundation links Rotarians to other people and other Rotarians and encouraged us to support Foundation as the charity of choice.
District 9800 Conference 2010 was not forgotten, DG Colin again extended his invitation and encouraged members to join him and Pauline for what is shaping up to be a great conference. Conference show bags with information about “Where in earth but Perth” were available for Club members to take home. DG Colin finished his presentation by recognising the many District Programs our Club supports and how active our Club is with a small membership.
