Excursions
Thanks to the generous support of Park Victoria and Coast Care WYPIN
has been able to make a number of days trips to Victorian National and
State Parks.
Due to recent arrival in Australia and limited financial resources most
refugee young people have few opportunities to experience Victorian parks
and environment. The aim of the project is to increase young people's
connection with their new environment and educate them about how to look
after their new environment.
- There are so many sea animals who can be affected by our rubbish.
(15 year old Sudanese young woman)
- I am reminded of the beach in my hometown in Eritrea. (16 year
Eritrean young person)
Due to their recent arrival in Australia and limited financial resources
these young people have few opportunities to participate in coastal conservation
activities. The project has worked closely with the Breamlea Coastal Action,
Breamlea Life Saving Club, Surf Riders Association and the Wathaurong
indigenous community to increase their awareness of coastal conservation
projects in the Breamlea area.
A camp was held in April for 20 young people from the Victorian University
English youth Access Program. The camp involved educational tours of the
dune and salt marsh environments and revegetation and water safety session
over the course of three days.
