'Whittlesea' is the area we primarily serve,
'U'
is for UNIVERSITY,
'3A'
is for the
THIRD AGE,
and put together you have
Whittlesea University
of the Third Age Inc.
The "Third Age" is described as the age of active retirement, which comes after the age of work and the age of youth.
The term "University" is used
with license, as there are no academic requirements for membership,
no diplomas and best of all NO EXAMS!
We are a self help learning group.
Our mission is to provide
opportunities for people of the Third Age to learn, teach, share and give
mutual support in a warm environment, regardless of ethnicity, ability or
disability.
We are a multicultural
volunteer, not for profit community organisation, offering a range of activities
for people aged 55 years and over. We are run and staffed by volunteers from the
senior community.
Our leaders are volunteers who willingly give their time to share their
particular skills and interests with others.
U3A's are found all over Australia and the world.
Whittlesea U3A Inc. is part of the Victorian U3A network.
We commenced in April 2002
with an enthusiastic committee, 30 members and 10 subject/classes.
In the short time since commencing, our membership has grown to more than 200
and is
increasing daily as is our list of current and prospective classes.
Our classes/activities are
held during the school terms each day and some nights of every week..
at various locations and times .
