Western Suburbs Wargames Association:

Hosted By VICNET

Wargaming is NOT running around firing 'paint' guns at other people. Wargaming is a long established hobby which uses miniature figures (sometimes called 'toy' soldiers by the uninitiated) to recreate history (past, present and future) in miniature. It is a colourful and sociable past-time, in which meeting people with similar interests is a major focal point of the hobby.

The Western Suburbs Wargames Association Inc. was formed early in 1992 to provide an outlet for people interested in miniature wargaming centred in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne. It now has 80 members from all suburbs of Melbourne (not just the west), from many Victorian regional centres such as Geelong and ranging in age from 12 to 60. Members have interests in all historical periods and in science fiction and fantasy gaming, with over 40 members attending most meetings.

Currently (October 2001) the most popular games being played are Battle Tech, far future science fiction large scale battle combat; Crossfire, WWII squad level combat primarily for infantry; and operational level WWII battles using the Canadian Great Battles of WWII system. In fact all the Canadian Wargamers Group Rulesets are very popular. The new WWII tactical rulset from Fire and Fury, Battlefront (not related to Battlefront Miniatures) is also gaining in popularity.

The club holds about 20 meetings per year with membership fees of $30 for under 16's and $50 for adults. Meetings are held from 12:00 - 20:00 on Saturdays, and are held in the Altona Meadows Community Centre, Trafalgar Ave. in Altona Meadows. Food and drink is provided at reasonable prices.

Great Battles of World War II Scenarios:

I have recently started creating new scenarios for the Canadian Wargamers Group Great Battles of WWII system. As they are developed they will be published here. WARNING! Many of these links are still under construction, so do not expect too much. I have not yet been able to extensively playtest these scenarios, so if you try one please e-mail the web page maintainer with your comments and suggestions. Just click on the picture.

Battlefront WWII:

I have recently started to play the Battlefront WWII tactical level rules from Fire and Fury. These rules do not use a points system to define forces for games. I have adapted a mechanism from another WWII rules set to allow quick definition of forces for "Pick Up" games. Just click on the picture.
