Many writers only tend to backup their work when they read an article that reminds them to do something about it. In the past, I was one of those writers. A few years ago, I adopted a smarter approach: I installed a program that does automatic backups. I also manually backup during the day to a USB flash drive.
Because I live in a rural setting and the threat of bushfire is constant, I recently looked for a way to store my articles and stories off-site. After researching various solutions, I chose Mozy Remote Backup.
My writing, which includes haiku, articles, short stories and novels, amounts to less than 100 megabytes. Mozy allows me up to 2 gigabytes for free at its backup facility in Utah.
Is it safe? You bet. With Mozy, you can use your own private key. If you think you might forget your key, you can instead use a key that Mozy provides. Mozy encrypts your data for protection. If your computer does happen to fail, you can easily restore your Mozy backup when you get your computer fixed (or when you buy a new one).
System Requirements: Microsoft Windows XP and a broadband connection. (Mozy intends to support other platforms too.)

NOTE: If you click on the link to Mozy above and sign up for a free account, both you and I will receive an additional 256 Megabytes of free backup storage.
(Mozy offers this benefit for a limited time only.)
