Today the ABC is running a story about Victoria encouraging Sapphire Coast towns to defect. Apparently John Brumby claims to have discovered some anomaly in the old legislation that established the border in these parts.

I think he should keep his mouth shut, for my money, neglected, abused and ripped off Mallacoota would happily become the most southerly outpost of New South Wales. Spring Street barely knows we exist and Shire councils in Orbost and more recently Bairnsdale have consistently treated us with contempt.

Commercially Mallacoota already does the bulk of its out-of-town business over the border, our flora and fauna has more cousins to the north than to the east. And although Sapphire Coast local politics may be no cleaner than what we have been accustomed to, it will not be worse.
