Koonung Woodturning Guild
Reg. No A0033752T
The Koonung Woodturning Guild is situated at Koonung Cottage Community House in Blackburn North. The Guild is open to both men and women and gives the opportunity for all members to learn basic and involved woodturning techniques.

The guild meets regularly on every fourth Saturday of the month from 9am until 12 noon at Koonung Cottage. Usually a short meeting is followed by either a demonstration, a speaker or a “hands on” activity which involves all members in turning.

This photo shows Ken Wraight, one of our members demonstrating how he turns a platter.
As well there is a regular meeting every Monday night for those who wish to have their turned pieces examined by other Guild Members who may give constructive criticism or make suggestions. On Thursday afternoons there is an instruction class which is given free of charge to any interested members. This is held at Koonung Cottage where the Guild have exclusive use of a shed which contains a number of working lathes as well as a great deal of other equipment. The shed is named “The Harold Irving Workshop ” which is a tribute to our late founding President, Harold Irving.
Often members of the Guild are asked to demonstrate to the public. We are very happy to do this.
Each year the members work hard to make many woodturned toys which are given away at Christmas.
As the above photo shows, it is a wonderful sight to see the tables laden with toys made by the members or their wives. Each year there is a representative of the Salvation Army and the Eastern Suburbs Relief Fund present. They gratefully receive the presents which they put to very good use for deserving children.
There is no question that the work which is produced by the members is of an extremely high standard.

As can be seen, the members take a pride in producing a variety of turned items which are shown at each monthly meeting.
