Dear Mr Jennings,

Proposed Ocean Access Boat Ramp at Bastion Point.

As our representative in parliament I urge you to not sign off on the concrete construction proposal for Mallacoota.

It is one of the most beautiful and easily accessible wilderness areas in Australia. I stayed in Mallacoota last year and went walking every morning at Bastion Point, and even in winter others had been ahead of me to collect bait, leaving their footprints along with those of their dogs. I was not ever able to have the area to myself because it is so popular with locals and visitors.

The huge rocks are home to a magnificent gallery of maring intertidal life. I would be happy to accompany you if you would like to know more about what is there.

From my ocassional reading on the subject I understand the planktonic life (which is a shallow soup of microscopic plants and animals floating on top of the ocean) will not keep its health if this goes ahead. The plankton is where many species put their young until they settle down. The small intertidal rock platform which is under threat of destruction from concrete has one of the most rich and diverse assortment of species in Victoria, and at this point I can suggest that the data in Coastal Invertebrates of Victoria p.169 conveys that information.

We need to preserve this habitat to maintain fish stocks and our supply of food.

I call on you to not approve the Ocean Access Boat Ramp at Bastion Point in the name of general public amenity and the future of our fish stocks.

Yours sincerely, Barbara Hall

Launch of the Save Knoxfield Website

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~saveknoxfieldws/

Save Knoxfield came into being because of residents' concerns about
the removal of indigenous canopy trees, some at least 100 years old,
and understory and the vanishing wildlife (birds, frogs, etc.) and
loss of biodiversity as a result of constant clearing.

Announcing the formation of Safe Climate Australia

Hi all,

I’m writing to introduce you to a significant climate project a team of us have developed over the past six months.

Today we announced the formation of Safe Climate Australia – a not-for-profit group dedicated to planning the transition to a zero-carbon economy.

Safe Climate Australia has been formed by a group of concerned climate scientists, community and business leaders with a shared understanding of the need for emergency action to restore a safe climate.

Safe Climate Australia

Safe Climate Australia is aiming to deepen community understanding about both the scientific imperatives that demand action at great speed, and about how we can plan the rapid transition to a zero-carbon economy.

We would like as many people as possible to understand the need for action and to become part of the solution, so please feel free to disseminate this note to people and organisations who you think will find it of interest.
