Word-of-Mouth History on Winton Wetlands & Winton Farm (if you have any information regarding Winton Wetlands or Winton Farm we would love to hear from you via email)
Winton Farm
Winton Farm is located along Boronia Road, Knox, adjacent to the
Dandenong Creek.
It is believed the first owners were a family named Boyle? and they ran it as a dairy
farm, the milking shed and yards can still be seen.
Later it was leased by a vet who ran a few head of cattle on the property.
This land and neighbouring acres was purchased as land for the Scoresby freeway.
In the 1970's the farm was leased from Vicroads and run as an agistment property
with approx 40 tenant horses with
numerous horse floats on-site.
In the early 1990's Melbourne Water compulsorily acquired the land adjacent to Dandenong Creek and, the then SEC, the land for/under the high voltage
power lines.
The low lying land abutting the creek, has always been a flood plain with billabongs.
In May 2003 we were sorry to say goodbye to Lou and Warren who have gone
'south' to their own property. The paddocks just aren't the same without
horses, instead of the neighing you hear the brmmm brmmm of the 'dirt'
bikes.
