President's Report - June
2008
The snow season comes ever
closer, with some real snow here and there, but not quite enough to rush off
to Lake Mt just yet. So start getting fit, assuming you are not perennially
fit. Check up on your gear and see if anything needs mending or replacing.
I do have sad news to
report. Fiona Rector died of an ovarian cancer with little notice. Most of
you may not have known her, but she was the Executive Officer for the
Victorian Snowsports Association. As such she had the unenviable job of
sorting out the insurance we seem burdened with in the present time. I had
many discussions with her and always marvelled that she could remain
cheerful and enthusiastic.
Jim Logan-Bell has stepped
into the breach and the insurance is sorted for this year. Whilst our
membership continues to diminish slowly, we have more than has been usual
wanting to go to Howmans this year, to the extent that we have filled all 10
of the places we booked, and have 2 on a waiting list. I have asked for more
places and hope they will become available. If anyone has changed their mind
about going, please advise ASAP.
We still seem to be
fulfilling a need in the XC world - we just have to streamline our formal
structure to suit today's circumstances.
