President's Report - April
2009
I am moved to write by the news of snowfall in April - even
at Lake Mt. I'm told. It may well disappear quickly, but it will help cool
the ground. 5 of us had a wet but pleasing weekend at Waratah Bay, sometimes
with glimpses of the Prom through the weather, and a swim in the rain for 3
of us.
I went to the SXCV meeting on 18/4/09. Points of interest
discussed included:-
-
Insurance - most
considered that D & O was not needed for incorporated societies, but
I am still not sure on that. There is still no word from VSA or anyone
else as to amount or how it is to be allocated between clubs. I made the
point that it should be divided on a per head basis, not by undue
loading on small clubs such as ours. Several others concur; at least one
has gone into recess over the problem. Seems we can only await further
developments.
-
Restoration work at
Lake Mt will be done by employing local labour in dire need of earning
money. We can expect to be able to ski there this winter, snow
permitting of course.
-
High Plains Road -
First coat seal has been completed on previous alignment, but in usual
grey. Slides were shown of light seal used on other alpine road and
efforts will be made to try to have final seal (next summer) in the
light cover to aid snow retention. I suggest breath not be held.
-
I asked about possible
further development at Falls Creek, but nothing is known of any at
present. I made the point that infrastructure should not be placed on
skiable snow areas.
-
Nothing is known of
further development at Mt. Stirling. Cattle have not been there for 3
years and the electric fence around the summit has been removed.
Wildflowers are back.
The full minutes are available if required.
Remember the AGM next month, especially think what you can
do towards the running of the Group. My expectation is that I will be far
away at that time and retain the view that a change at the top is good for
any organisation. Consideration could be given to merging, but we are pretty
well unique in being a purely recreational XC Group.
See you all at a pub night and on the snow.
Cheers
Loch Wilson, President
