Camping Weekend - November 2008
On the way down we were thinking
what are we doing going down to Shoreham in this weather. We got there about
8.00pm on Friday night, the ranger offered us a trough to put a fire in. But
by the time we set up the tent and Loch put the fly over to protect the tent
(we had our canvas tent) it was a bit late. David and Anthea arrived about 5
minutes after us in their Troopie. There was only a little rain on Friday
night. Next morning we asked if we could have the trough for Saturday night
which the ranger duly delivered with kindling on Saturday afternoon and
chopped up a fallen tree with his splitter.
Saturday was quite fine in the
morning but really cool. After lunch Loch went for his usual swim as David,
Anthea and I headed off to Point Leo to check out the waves. Too windy so we
headed off to the Merricks Store which is really a store no longer although
it does sell milk. Instead there is a very nice tasting room and cafe. Wine
first. Tried some of the local wines which were very nice. They specialised
in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with a couple of sweet whites (yum), I tried
the reds (of course) and found 1 to my liking which I purchased.
Afternoon tea was skinny coffee
and a cake all round then back to the camp. Because it was so cool and windy
Loch put an extra fly around our tent which was marvellous as it stopped a
lot of the draught. So we were able to have a sheltered dinner even though
it was raining at this stage. Dinner cooked over an open fire always tastes
better.
Sunday was fine and sunny in the
morning so Loch went off for a warmer swim this time. We just vedged out at
the campsite in the sun. After lunch we packed up and came home. So it was a
very lazy weekend but very enjoyable.
