Region & State Relays
Each year Williamstown Little Athletics Centre takes part in
the State Relay
Competition. The competition comprises Region Heats and State
Finals. Relays create a sense of comradeship among athletes, with
athletes learning to work together and consider each other. Due
to the relay competition being conducted so early in the season,
training is very
important.
Only athletes from Under 9 to Under 15 are able to compete.
Venue: Corio Little Athletics Centre, Melways Ref 224 A8 Goldsworthy
Reserve Athletics Stadium, Goldsworthy Road, Corio.
Date: Sunday 15th, November, 2009

It is very important for parents and competitors to understand that, if a team successfully progresses, entrants must be available to compete at State Relays, Olympic Park, on Sunday 13th December 2009.
If your child decides to enter:
• Children will be advised who their age group Coach will
be and the days and time of training.
• Teams are entered in age groups in various distances along
with mixed age medleys.
• Mixed sex teams may also be entered.
• All families will be rostered to do duty during the course
of the day and if
• your child progresses through to State Relays you will
also be rostered on duty for that event.
• Relays are an ALL DAY event. Athletes
and their families are expected to
• attend the entire day.
Additional Team Information
• Athletes are not selected but rather nominate themselves
to participate.
• All athletes who nominate will be placed in a relay team
(unless there are
insufficient entries to field a complete team).
• Training is very important. A uniform method of baton
changes between the boxes marked on the track must be practiced
by all team members.
• Teams are selected based on regular attendance at training,
attitude,
• performance and suitability for events. The Coach’s
decision is final.
• Teams must compete at Region Relays to qualify for State
Finals.
• The Williamstown Centre uniform must be worn. (For uniform
requirements
• see UNIFORM page.)
• Coaches will advise relay entrants of training times for
each age group.
