New 14/04/12 Cross Country Information
For those interested, the Cross Country season commences on Saturday, 21 April 2012.
Cross Country is our Winter program that runs on Saturday mornings between April and August at Newport Lakes Reserve (off Mason Street, Newport).
Cross Country is an important part of Little Athletics. It is an ideal way for little athletes who like the longer distances to enjoy a different style of competition, and is beneficial for building strength and stamina either for the next Track & Field season or for other sports.
All children from Under 6 to Under 16 may participate. Age groups are determined by the age of the athlete on 1 October 2011.
- Under 6 to Under 8 run 1,000m
- Under 9 to Under 10 run 1,500m
- Under 11 to Under 12 run 2,000m
- Under 13 to Under 16 run 3,000m
There are no fees for registered athletes (i.e. those currently registered for the 2011/12 season) and $40 for unregistered athletes. New registrations need to complete a registration form and provide proof of age.
Information relating to the 2012 Cross Country season can be found here
The first event on Saturday, 21 April will be a try out / registration day starting at 10:00am. We will be using the new course, so please head to the southern end of the lake, adjacent to the car park and facilities area.

New 11/04/12 STATE ATHLETICS REPORT 2012
On the weekend of 24th and 25th March the Victorian State Athletics Championships were held in Bendigo. The Williamstown Centre had a total of 32 athletes competing over the 2 day event. A great weekend was had by all; the children competed with a great sense of sportsmanship and camaraderie and we were proud of each and every one of them.
Some notable achievements were as follows:
Gold Medal – Bradley Ticehurst U15 100m
Silver Medal – Bradley Ticehurst U15 200m
Silver Medal – Celeste Mucci U13 High Jump
Silver Medal – Celeste Mucci U13 100m
Silver Medal – Celeste Mucci U13 80m hurdles
Bronze Medal – Georgie Loader U14 Shot Put
Bronze Medal – Isabel Cross U10 High Jump
Congratulations to all of these athletes – getting a medal at an event where over 2,000 athletes compete is a fantastic achievement!
A number of Centre Outside Records were also broken during the course of the weekend:
Celeste Mucci U13 80m hurdles – new Outside Record of 13.27
Angus Wood U11 80m hurdles – new Outside Record of 13.49
Bradley Ticehurst U15 100 – new Outside Record of 11.57
Bradley Ticehurst U15 200 – new Outside Record of 23.26
Jack Noonan U13 Javelin – new Outside Record of 28.28
Congratulations to these athletes – once again breaking records at State events is a marvellous accomplishment!
Apart from these achievements there are some notable performances – Cameron Rains and Josh Loader, our U9 athletes a great effort for participating in their first State event with such enthusiasm and good sportsmanship and Mitchell Zadel for making the finals of the U11 100m in his first ever State events. And of course to all those children who achieved their Personal Bests – well done.
A big thank you too all parents who fulfilled their duties over the weekend – we couldn’t have managed without you. Again a special mention to Hamid Sotounzadeh who assisted with setting up the marquees at 7am Saturday morning, to the Tambourines and Gibsons for doing 2 duties; and a special thanks to Doreen Covelli for her invaluable assistance and support with managing the parent roster for the weekend. An enormous vote of thanks for Katrina, my fellow Team Manager for all her pre event preparation of run sheets and timetables and especially for unselfishly making the trek down the highway with no children competing a States.

23/2/12 Region Track and Field Report
Firstly on behalf of Katrina and myself and the Williamstown Centre we wanted to thank parents and children alike for making last weekend at Regionals such a fantastic time. To the parents who assisted with the rostered duties thank you for your willingness to do so – there’s no way we could have made it through the weekend without each and every one of you. Thank you as well to those parents who did more than one duty over the weekend as well as those who stayed past their children’s finishing times. It was noticed and appreciated.
A big thank you to Doreen Covelli for her invaluable assistance with the roster.
Thank you to the children for your sportsmanlike behaviour throughout the weekend – we were proud to have you representing our Centre.
For those of you who haven’t checked the LAVIC website the results are through and you can see on that site the names of the children who are eligible to progress to the State Championships in Bendigo on the 24th and 25th March. Of the 54 or so kids that attended Regionals over 2/3 have made it through to States which is really a fantastic result. Well done to you all. For those who missed out this time you should all be proud of your efforts – remember Aths is all about participation and achieving your personal best.
A couple of housekeeping things:
1. We have heard that accommodation in Bendigo is rapidly filling up – so if you haven’t already booked somewhere to stay for that weekend I suggest you get onto it asap.
2. A reminder that parents attending States will again need to do a rostered duty.
3. If your child will not be able to get to Bendigo for the weekend or for any reason can’t compete in one or more of his/her events please let us know asap – no later than Friday 2nd March. This would allow other children who may have narrowly missed out on eligibility, to progress through.
4. The results as I said are on the LAVIC website, as is the timetable for the weekend. If you have any questions about that information please feel free to contact me or Katrina.
More info to follow but once again well done and thank you to all of you.
16/12/11 Regional Relay Results: Williamstown Little Aths Centre to have 29 teams competing at States!!! Read on!
Yesterday the results came through for the list of teams who have made it through to the State Relay Competition to be held Saturday 28th January 2012. We are really pleased to see that every age group for both boys and girls that competed at Regions has at least one team that will be going through to States. This again means that nearly every child who competed will get a run. This is indeed a fantastic outcome but what was just as pleasing was the spirit in which the children represented themselves and the Centre at our Regional competition a week ago. All the children competed with a great sense of sportsmanship and camaraderie and we were proud of each and every one of them. We hope they will choose to participate again next year.
We also want to take this opportunity to thank the coaches of the teams who put in much of their own time to coach the children. In addition we would like to thank all the parent volunteers – the Regional officials commented on the high quality of helpers this year. Thanks and please remember we will need your help again at States!
Click here for a list of teams who have qualified for States.
All the best for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Centre Team Managers
13/12/11 Reminder that this Saturday will be the last competition for this year. It is also the last day for Region Track and Field Entries so make sure you get them in. Entries and payment can be made in the clubhouse during the morning. See below for more information. There is also a Seniors competition to be held this week at Newport in the afternoon. Come along and see what Senior Athletics is all about.
Qualifiers and Progressions for State Relays should be up on the lavic website by Thursday 5pm. We already have quite a few teams automatically qualified but you can keep an eye out for other Williamstown teams who will be progressing through to the State Finals.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS RE REGIONAL TRACK AND FIELD COMPETITION
Hi all,
Each year the different regions in Victoria hold Regional Track and Field competitions for Little Athletes. Some athletes compete in Regional events for the enjoyment alone; others compete more seriously as a way of qualifying for the State championships.
This season the Regional Championships will be held at the Corio track on the 18th and 19th February 2012 with the State events being held on the 24th and 25th March 2012 at Bendigo. Children from Under 9 and up can compete in a maximum of 4 events.
In considering your children’s interest in competing in Regionals please bear in mind the following:
1. To be eligible to compete at State Championships your child must have competed in at least 50% of all available meets eg if your child was registered and paid from Week 1 of this season and we have have had 10 meets, your child must have competed in at least 5 of those meets. If your child registered and paid in Week 6 and we have had 10 meets they must have competed in at least 2 of the 4 available meets. If you have any concerns about eligibility please see either Sam Cross, Katrina Lange or your Club President.
2. There are different starting heights and starting board distances for High Jump and Triple Jump at the State events so it would be advisable to check these out before committing your child to either of these events. For example at weekly high jumps we are flexible but usually start Under 9 boys at 0.75m. At State champs they start Under 9 boys on 0.95m. Please check the Handbook or speak to your Club President if you want further information.
3. Finally please note ENTRIES CLOSE 17TH DECEMBER 2011 AND NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED. ENTRY FORMS ARE AVAILABLE IN THE HANDBOOK BUT WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE FROM YOUR CLUB DESKS FROM THIS SATURDAY. ENTRY FEE IS $7.50 PER EVENT. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT PAYMENT.
Please see either Sam Cross or Katrina Lange if you have any questions regarding Regionals.
Regards,
Williamstown Little Athletics Centre Executive
22/11/11 State Multi Event Report
Well what a weekend was had by all! We may have had 2 athletes who earned medals from their sporting achievements but for those who attended, assisted, watched and supported their kids on Saturday and Sunday we think you all deserved a medal!
The athletes and parents on Saturday copped an absolute drenching but showed great sportsmanship and commitment, as well as cheerful enthusiasm, by staying the full day and cheering on not only your own but other athletes as well. Similarly the parents and athletes on Sunday showed great spirit. For our Under 9s it was their first attempt at multis and they were a fantastic example of what Little Aths is all about. The Under 9 Boys 800m was the last event of the day and for these tired kids (and parents) must have been really tough. But all 3 participated with big smiles on their faces.
We would like to thank all the kids and their families for their support to both of us over the 2 days of competition - we couldn't have done it without you.
Our results were outstanding with special mention going to:
Celeste Mucci - 1st place Under 13 girls 1414 points
Johanna Quinn - 2nd place Under 16 girls 1347 points
Jack Noonan - 8th place Under 13 boys 1279 points
Well done to the remaining children who all performed to a high level
Grace Fechner Under 9 girls 38th 436 points
Xavier Barrett-Dean Under 9 boys 57th 563 points
North Barrett-Dean Under 9 boys 65th 493 points
Dan Presley Under 9 boys 55th 596 points
Sheba Soutanzadeh Under 10 girls 19th 743 points
Darcy Beer Under 10 boys 40th 744 points
Bayley Camillo Under 10 boys 31st 797 points
Siana Presley Under 11 girls 46th 645 points
Chris Covelli Under 11 boys 16th 1067 points
