The friends group was formed in 2000, with the aim of working with the City of Greater Bendigo to promote, protect and restore the key public gardens in Bendigo. They are based in the White Hills Botanic Gardens, in the Samuel Gadd Centre. There is an active Botanical Illustration Group and the Growing Friends Group who propagate plants, assist with weeding and planting garden beds, as well as holding plant sales days. They also provide guided walks and other activities.
