February 1898. Photograph reproduced in the Bendigonian (page 8). This photograph, in the ‘Group' category of a photographic competition, was taken at White Hills Botanic Gardens shows the lagoon, footbridge and structure thought to be the aviary on the island. By Mr C E Bully, this photo received second prize. Note what appear to be river red gums around the lagoon edge. Newspaper Collection, State Library of Victoria.
