Things worth knowing
I would dearly
love to have the time and skills to write and maintain an up-to-date
information website for people with all disabilities (not
only wheelies like myself) in Australia (or even Worldwide), but I trust
that this site at least helps out a little in the provision of news
of interest for those who spend the time visiting it.
-
You are always welcome
to send me in any information you would like to share with others
and I will certainly put it to good use as soon as possible (see
my contact details on the Home Page and elsewhere throughout this site).
-
Here are
a few little bits of information that could be worth knowing
-
The National Public
Toilet Map
a website listing more than 13,000 disabled
dunnies (meaning toilets for non-Aussies) but it's not the
actual toilet in Australian towns and cities (including
rural areas and along major travel routes) can be found at
www.toiletmap.gov.au/.
Useful info is provided about each toilet, such as opening hours
and access and maps of specific locations can be downloaded and
printed from the site for later use. The site was designed to
help travellers with incontinence and daily living arrangements
(information provided by AQA News Link, added January 2002).
-
The Department of Communications,
Information Technology and the Arts
at www.dcita.gov.au/accessibility
is a Federal Government site which gives out a lot of information,
much of which could be of interest to disabled visitors.
It opens with… "The Commonwealth
Government is acting to ensure that people with disabilities have
adequate access to online information and communication services. In
1998, $1.5 million was provided in support of innovative projects
which will develop new products, new services or new ways of using
current products or services, to improve access by people with
disabilities."
-
So, if
they spend that sort of money on giving us some information, we'd
better make full use of it!

Please
feel free to share your experiences with others?
