Plants for Cottage Gardens

The list of plants below are a selection of plants that grow in gardens around the Horsham District.

The plants have been chosen to have a mature height of around one metre or less . Heights will vary with soil type.

On heavier soils such as in Horsham they will do better if the depth of the topsoil is increased.

The addition of gypsum to heavy clay will also improve the heavier soils and a layer of sand over the top will help prevent drying out.

These plants will do better if not over-watered. If fertiliser is used it should contain little or no Phosphorus.
