about IWD fair day
International Women's Day dates back to 1910 internationally, and 1928 in Australia, when a rally was held to campaign for better working conditions for women.
International Women's Day is a time for celebrating women's lives, while also recognising that discrimination against women on the basis of their gender is still widespread throughout the world.
The IWD Fair Day Collective organises a fair each year to express our freedom, flexibility, diversity, visibility and fresh attitudes. This is an event for women to simply enjoy being women, and for everyone to celebrate women's achievements and affirm women's political, economic and social rights. The IWD Fair Day features women speakers, performers and musicians. You will also find stalls providing services, information and sales, workshops and an art exhibition at the IWD Fair Day. The Fair Day is organised by women, for women and about women.
With this Fair, we simultaneously recognise the struggle ahead of us and offer women a warm, fun space to step back and enjoy their achievements.
