Victorian Youth Track Championships 2008
Held at Olympic Park, Melbourne - mild weather conditions
There was a great competition between Amy Burren and Rachael Tallent in the
U16 girls race with Amy just taking the advantage over the last 200m of
the event.
Lewis Clark showed great style to win the boys U16 event with another close competition between Bradley Simpson and Matthew
Felton for second place.
The youngest walker of the meeting, Jeremiah Jones held off a
strong challenge from Aaron Fiddes to win the under 14 boys 1500m
event.
Third place went to Lucas Taylor in a close finish from Aaron Gardner.
The under 14 girls race was very intense with only 16 seconds between the the first five walkers.
Ebony Whiley held on for a strong win over Amelia Finegan and Sarah Burren. Stephanie George and Ashley
Albert were the other athletes making it a very exciting event.

Held at Olympic Park, Melbourne - perfect weather conditions.
Kyle Bryant and Rhydian Cowley trailed a super fast Luke Adams
(open) around the track but they were brilliant in holding their form
to record 22:11.50 and 22:20.81
to finish first and second in the Under
20 mens race over 5000m. Shaun Burgess walked well for third in
25:51.45.
The
womens race had Jessica Rothwell chasing a classy performance by Megan
Szirom (open). Jess walked a great race and despite tiring a little
towards the end she finished in a great time of 23:26.55. Lauren
Drennan and Caitlin Brunton were having a good duel for second with the
Corio girl, Caitlin proving too stong over the closing stages to finish
in 26:19.55. Lauren couldn't quite lap her mum but finished in a
respectible 27:54.18 for the 5000m event.
Regan Lamble kept pace
with Rhydian Cowley and Daniel Payne for the opening laps of the 5000m
event. The trio broke away from a tight group of Natalie Laurie, Tyne
Boddy(U23), Tamara Attard and Jesse Palfreyman. Rhydian maitained his
fast pace and eventually broke well away to comfortavbly win the Men's
U18 race from Daniel with Jason Ekms picking up third place. Natalie
opened a small gap to Tyne and Tamara with Jesse dropping off the pace.
Regan had opened up good lead which she held to finish first in the U18
girls event. Tamara finished with a personal best time in third place
behind Natalie who was still walking stong at the finish.
Timucin
Girgin was a clear winner in the U16 men's 3000m event. Bradley Simpson
and Filip Cosic had their own little contest for second place. Rachel
Tallent lead the close field in the girls race with Taylah Watt holding
off the trio from Corio of Erin Brunton, Danielle Brunton and Emily
Payne.

Daniel
Payne and Nichloas Mirarchi battled out a great Under 16 Men 3000m
race. Daniel continued the fast pace despite a pain shooting down his
leg and held off the surges from Nicholas. Nicholas changed to a
smoother style for this race after being disqualifed in the previous
day's 5000m open mens race and was rewarded with a well deserved second
place finish.
Jesse
Palfreyman cruised to a good win in the Under 18 Women race after
holding off the early challanges from Tamara Attard. Lana Boddy walked
a steady race to finish third but claimed the Country athlete second
place medal.
Rachael Tallent just managed to hold off Emily Payne in the Under
16 race with Emily's team mate Danielle Davis tiring over the closing
stages but managing to hold on to third place.

The windy
conditions at Olympic Park did not hamper the enthausiasm of the
athletes for the U16-14 championships. Rhydian Cowley was pushed hard
by Christopher Tilley and Nicholas Mirarchi in the U16 boys race.
Natalie Laurie showed a return to form in the U16 girls event with a
close contest between Lana Boddy and Sarah Brunton for the minor
placings.
Timucin Girgin (U15) did well to stay in touch with the U16 boys.
Despite being well clear of her opposition Beth Alexander improved by 2
seconds over her U17 race to comfortably win the U15 girls race from
Taylah Watt.
There was a good field of athletes for the U14 race with Cassandra
Raselli beating the boys over the line for a very classy win. Brad
Simpson has made a big improvement since last year and beat Robert
Walsh over the line to win the U14 boys race. Ryan Antidormi finishing
a close third place. Likewise Emily Whiley has made a huge improvement
and finished a close third to Rachael Tallent.

Albert Park - Road Course
The smooth style of Daniel Payne quickly eased to the front in the
Under 16 race. The tall Jessica Rothwell lead the girls and opened a
gap to Regan Lamble and Jessica Payfreyman. Rothwell was the only one
to stay close to Daniel as they both cleared well away from the rest of
the field. Shaun Burgess and Daniel Payne improved as the race went on
to fill the minor places in the boys race.
