The poll is conducted under Section 111A of the Local Government Act 1989 (11/1989), itself an amendment contained in the Shop Reform Act. It is the result of a petition from ratepayers, is determined by a simple majority of valid votes (provided valid votes total greater than one-third of total enrolment) and the result is binding on Council. |
