"Echoes of the Past - A History of Newham and Cobaw" -

This excellent publication is fully illustrated and indexed. Drawing on years
of personal research and the extensive records of our Local and Family History
Resource Centre, Jannyse has produced an entertaining and detailed account of
the history of these two important areas. It will be of interest to all who
have links with the district now covered by the Macedon Ranges Shire.
"Woodend on the Five Mile Creek" - Betty Jean Barned. $12.00
This illustrated history of Woodend is a useful compilation of material from
various sources. Its major focus is on the Woodend and Newham area, but it also
contains some material relating to Ashbourne, Hesket, Springfield (North
Woodend), Macedon and Carlsruhe. Following a general history of the area,
chapters cover such topics as early transport, local busineses, buildings,
organisations, schools and churches. There is also a large section on early
pioneers and local families.
"My Side of the Mountain" – Hesket, Cherokee and Kerrie by

A useful illustrated history of the Hesket, Cherokee and Kerrie districts,
reprinted by the W & D.H.S. in response to public demand. Originally
published in 1983, it contains reminiscences of many early residents of this
area. In addition to photographs, this book includes a useful map showing the
position of buildings such as schools and churches long since gone.
"A Woodend Walk" - Janet Hawkins, $4.00
Contains illustrations and a brief history of 27 buildings and houses of
interest in the Woodend township, plus notes re. some additional places in the
wider district. It includes both district and town maps and although it does
suggest a walk through the town, it will also be of interest to those seeking
an introduction to the main features of Woodend.

"Hanging Rock Memories and other Poems" - Denis

Denis Fitzgerald was born in Springhill in 1877 and spent most of his life as a
farmer. An extremely well read man, he also had a great love of the Australian
bush and in this collection of his poetry he has caputured the life and times
of early last century in this district.

The first St. Mary"s Anglican Church in Woodend was built in 1859, but by
1864 a decision was made to replace it with a more substantial bluestone
building. This detailed work tells the story of a much-loved building, and of
many of the people who have worshipped there over many years. It also records
all the monuments and plaques and the changes to the furnishings of the
building from 1859 to the present time. Fully illustrated and indexed.

This is Joan Lindsay's novel beautifully illustrated with over 200 images from
Peter Weir's film of the same name. A limited edition, this book is destined to
become a valuable collector's item.

Miss Sim taught at the Woodend Primary School
from 1927 until 1951.An exceptional teacher, firm but well respected, she has remained in the memory of
her former pupils. Neil has collected some of these memories to provide a fascinating account of school days during these years. The booklet also contains a collection of Woodend Primary School photographs.
