It was with excitement that we embarked on our first weekend photoshoot to Hepburn Springs over the ANZAC weekend. Everyone came prepared with their winter woolies and waterproof gear and the chilly weather didn't deter anyone. I arrived at 8am Saturday morning to find the Friday night arrivals having breakfast. Some had already been out taking photos of a foggy Hepburn Springs. After breakfast, two cars departed looking for inspiration. An old abandoned and dilapidated house was spotted. The cameras went into a frenzy with fantastic stonework, corrugated iron and timber. At Lavendula Swiss Italian Farm we were immediately struck by the beautiful autumn foliage. We wandered around the old farm buildings finding flowers, lavender fields, emus, donkeys, geese and knick knacks. The sun popped out very briefly and brought out the colour in the yellow and red leaves. A few more members arrived throughout the day and we all met up in Malmsbury for a photographic exhibition by Len Johnson on a Himalayan region, Sikkim. We were relieved to find a warm pub to have dinner at after getting wet in the heavy rain. Lots of stories were swapped over dinner. After dinner we made use of the lounge at our accommodation to look at the photos we had taken during the day, to chat, eat and have some warming drinks. On Sunday, a few early risers braved a 3 degree morning to take photos at Daylesford Lake just after sunrise. After breakfast the entire group went to Daylesford Lake for a fun group photo, a walk to the Central Springs and a coffee at the Boathouse. After morning tea we had fun with fungi. We experimented with a reflector to cast more light on the fungi and were amazed at the results considering it was such a dull day. A little waterfall provided the opportunity to demonstrate shutter speeds to a new member and she was very excited at learning the technique. With rain threatening I headed back to Melbourne while the others continued on.
I think all the participants would agree with me in saying that the weekend was full of photography, fun and friendship.
