FRIENDS OF WILLIAMSTOWN BOTANIC GARDENS

PURPOSES

As amended following discussion from emailed comments, and those from the floor at meeting  17th August, 2009

The purposes of the Friends of Williamstown Botanic Gardens Incorporated (‘The Friends’) are:

  • To encourage and support the growth of a Friends Group interested in the conservation, development, wellbeing and public appreciation of the Williamstown Botanic Gardens.
  • To represent the interests of the Friends of Williamstown Botanic Gardens throughout the City of Hobsons Bay and the wider community.
  • To work as advocates to ensure the sustainability and long term development of the Williamstown Botanic Gardens to ensure that they will remain a valued part of the Hobsons Bay community.
  • To support the work of Hobsons Bay City Council in maintaining these Gardens.

To support these purposes the ‘The Friends’ will endeavour to:

    1. Promote membership of ‘The Friends’.
    2. Facilitate communication, advocacy, information exchange and sharing of experience.
    3. Maintain a website for the benefit of members and other community groups.
    4. Publish and disseminate newsletters or other publications relating to the activities of ‘The Friends’.
    5. Identify potential funding opportunities for the Gardens.
    6. Form and maintain relationships with other Friends of Botanic Gardens and join the Association of Friends of Botanic Gardens.
    7. Encourage members involvement in the Botanic Gardens of Australia and New Zealand (BGANZ) regional events and other related seminars and conferences.
    8. Appoint, employ or pay honoraria to persons as may be necessary or convenient for the purposes of ‘The Friends’.
    9. Build links with all educational institutions in the City of Hobsons Bay to assist in education about the value of the Williamstown Botanic Gardens.
    10. Foster the interest of members in the Gardens and in plants and flora generally through education and fellowship.
    11. Support appropriate cultural activities in the Gardens.
    12. Support in every way the work of the Gardens.
    13. Work co-operatively with the Williamstown Botanic Gardens Advisory Group for the benefit of the Gardens.
    14. Do such things as are conducive to or incidental to the attainment of the purposes set out above.
