Kennedy Castle

This dance was written in honour of the memory of Frank Kennedy, who founded both the Waverley and Williamstown Scottish Societies in Melbourne, Australia. Frank, and his wife Jean, devoted over 30 years to Scottish Country Dancing, encouraging newer dancers and promoting fun and friendship. Frank always referred to their home as “Kennedy Castle” and friends were always welcome there. 1 - 8 8 hands round and back. 9 - 16 All set to and turn corner with the Right hand, set to and turn partner with the Left hand. 1st and 3rd men remain facing out. 17 - 24 1st and 3rd couples dance a Ladies’ chain. 25 - 28 1st and 3rd couples, giving Right hand, change places with the opposite person, and retaining Right hands, dance four hands across half way. 29 - 32 Repeat with the Left hand.

33 - 40 1st and 3rd couples, taking promenade hold, advance past each other with the men passing Left shoulder and dance out the opposite end of the set (4 steps). Cast to the left – 1’s round 2’s, 3’s round 4’s, and promenade back to original positions (4 steps) |

41 - 56 All four couples dance a grand chain, 2 steps to each hand, 16 bars. All ladies polite turn to place on bar 56. 57 - 72 2nd and 4th couples, taking promenade hold, advance past each other with the men passing Left shoulder and dance out the opposite side of the set (4 steps). Cast to the left – 2’s round 3’s, 4’s round 1’s, and promenade back to original positions (4 steps) 65 - 72 2nd and 4th couples, giving Right hand, change places with the opposite person, and retaining Right hands, dance four hands across half way. Repeat with the Left hand. 2nd and 4th men remain facing out. 73 - 80 2nd and 4th couples dance a Ladies’ chain. 2nd and 4th men dance straight to corners on bar 80 - no polite turn. 81 - 88 All set to and turn corner with the Right hand, set to and turn partner with the Left hand. 89 - 96 8 hands round to the RIGHT and back to the LEFT.
