Membership of the Waverley Bushwalking ClubHow to join us? - It's EASY!All types of walks from historical and park walks to base camps and overnight hikes. We suggest you start with easy walks if you are not experienced. No need to buy special equipment to begin - see below. You need to complete 2 walks to become a member - cost $4 per walk (to cover insurance). Check out our Events Program and select a walk. Please contact us either at our next meeting, or by contacting our Membership Secretary - see below for contact details. What equipment should I have?Initially we recommend you spend little or no money until you discover which activities you enjoy. Discussion with experienced members will reveal the pros and cons of their style of boots, backpacks etc. Personal preferences vary considerably. Specialised equipment will cost $50 - $300 (or more) per item, so you should be sure you will continue bushwalking and know which items are best for your choice of walks or camps. Specialised bushwalking shops sell an extensive range of gear and many offer a 10% discount to Club Members. Check out our suggested Equipment for Day Bushwalks. Qualifying WalksYou must complete two walks with the club before applying for membership. Before doing these two walks:
Cost of membership and joining the clubFees for 2009 are : Joining Fee - $20, Plus Annual Fee - Family $61, Adult $42, Student or Pensioner $35 When you are ready to join, you will be required to complete a membership application form and return it with your payment. Benefits of MembershipWaverley Bushwalking Club gives you the opportunity of sharing the beauty of the Australian bush with other like minded people. To experience walking beside fast flowing mountain streams, to hear the chatter of birds, to witness lyrebirds at play, and to see the many varieties of flora, such as orchids and other flowers in the spring, is a wonderful feeling. Information about the types of activities available is on the About Us page and in the Events Program. One of the benefits of walking with a group is that by being with people with a wide range of experiences you will learn to walk in a safe manner following correct procedures. It is recommended that you read Walk Notes and Participants Responsibilities. If you have leadership experience you will be a great asset to the club. If not, and you would like to contribute to the club by leading, we will enable you to obtain these skills while on the track and at one of our leadership courses. There are many other ways you can contribute to the bushwalking community. One is to get involved in the various Bushwalking Victoria committees. For example Bushwalking Search and Rescue (BSAR) and Conservation are always looking for new members and input from clubs.
