About Waverley Bushwalking ClubAt a public meeting of keen bushwalkers in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne in April 1987, Waverley Bushwalking Club was formed as an affiliated member of Bushwalking Victoria. Since that time, the club has grown to 220 members who all enjoy walking and social interaction, both on walks and at our monthly meetings. The club organises a variety of events including day walks, base camps, tagalongs (multi-site base camping), pack carries, cycling, canoeing and cross country skiing; catering to a wide range of interests and skill levels. Day walks take place in a large number of different areas ranging from suburban parks to the nearby mountains. Historic walks around the suburbs of Melbourne provide the opportunity of experiencing the history of our city. Base camps, varying in duration from a few days to one week, either in tents or roofed accommodation, are a great way to enjoy the company of fellow members. Tagalongs, both within Victoria and interstate, are also very popular. Pack Carry walks over a number of nights, with participants carrying all the necessary items for camping in remote locations, offer the opportunity of going to places you may not otherwise be able to visit. Walks in other countries have also been a feature of this club in the past. Details of upcoming events and a definition of the grading system are in the Events Program. Check out the Photo Gallery to see us enjoying ourselves. Our monthly newsletter, Walklines, contains details of forthcoming events, reviews of recent events and any other relevant news or issues which may be of interest to members. Visitors with little or no previous bushwalking experience are encouraged to walk with us to "give us a try". Experienced members are always available to pass on their skills and knowledge of all aspects of bushwalking. For information about joining the club and equipment recommended contact the Membership secretary or attend one of our monthly meetings. |
