WOMEN
for a
REAL, REAL
REPUBLIC

Welcome to WARRR [Women for an Australian Real,Real Republic] a group of women from the broadest range of backgrounds acting upon the proposal of Australia's becoming a republic. Concerns include :

* the issues around a new constitution recognising that the existing one is obsolete and wasn't devised by women or Indigenous Australians, and is therefore undemocratic;

* a bill of rights : whether we want this in the constitution and, if so, what it will/should contain;

* looking at ways in which the direct election of the president will work effectively - issues such as public funding, nomination processes/requirements, powers, etc;

* devising strategies for ensuring that we gain a new constitution and that as far as possible it includes the issues we consider vital to a constitution for an egalitarian, nonracist (we wish), nonsexist (ditto), nondiscriminatory (ditto) compassionate society;

* ensuring that women have an opportunity to discuss, debate, argue and agitate about the australian republic.

WARRR is both action orientated - to get 'things' done, take action; and discussion/debate orientated to tease out issues and ideas, incorporating positive input from women of diverse backgrounds in constructive debate, discussion and argument .
