About Us
What is the WCS?
The Warringal Conservation Society is a local, not-for-profit, community based
organisation caring for the environment in Banyule. Formed in 1970, the Society
is an active and productive steward of the environmental heritage in Banyule.
Our past work includes:
- undertaking numerous plantings
- leading natural history walks
- producing books and pamphlets
- consulting with local, state and federal governments.
- attending Appeals Tribunals
Our Aims
- to make governments at all levels aware of environmental issues
- restore and enhance indigenous vegetation
- share information on conservation and natural history
- provide a forum for natural history
- promote sustainable use of resources
- encourage individuals to play an active role in local conservation
Our Challenge
Even though much work has been done over the past 30 years, there still remains much to be achieved:
- re-establish indigenous vegetation and improve habitat for wildlife
- ensure conservation issues are addressed in imminent urban development and redevelopment in Banyule
- keep recycling and sustainable use of resources on the agenda
