Warringal Conservation Society arrange plantings for the second Sunday of each month from 10 am to
12 noon. Come along and meet some people and help us plant trees, shrubs and grasses. You'll enjoy
the work, the fresh air, the peaceful Sunday morning and sharing a cuppa with down to earth people!
All our events are open to everyone. Please come along and bring your friends, family, kids and grandchildren.
Don Stokes is the Society's Planting co-ordinator
and he will be working closely with the Banyule Bush Crew.
In 2005 we will continue to consolidate and focus on maintenance to existing plantings as well as
some infill planting to the Banyule creek drainage line (Habitat link). Also we will continue to
work on plantings at Warringal Swamp with a combination of hand weeding and infill planting at this site.

A message from our Planting Co-ordinator
If you have ever wandered around the Banyule Flats area, enjoying the riverside environment,
cycling/jogging along the extensive trail network, or just walking your dog, you may have noticed
the newly planted and mulched areas left in the wake of the Banyule City Council Bushland Management
unit and their assistants from Warringal Conservation Society.
What you may not have recognised as BCC and WCS work are the mature plantings and rehabilitated
areas which now contribute to a part of Melbourne becoming well known for its natural value and beauty.
The Banyule and Warringal Swamps were saved from development largely due to campaigning by WCS and
are now habitat for a huge number of birds and animals, as well as a precious area for human
spiritual replenishment.
Anyone interested in participating in the ongoing improvement of the area, or in learning about our
indigenous flora and fauna, is welcome to join us on the second Sunday of the month during the
planting season.
