Trugo is played on two separate thirty metre lawn courts, by pairs or teams of up to eight players. The object of the game is to hit a rubber disc (called a wheel) the length of the court using a wooden mallet.
If the wheel goes through two posts at the end of the court, the player has scored a goal.

The mallet is used in two ways, 'tunneling', and 'side swiping'. In tunneling, the wheel is put on the ground between the players feet. The player then turns their back on the goals and hit the wheel through their legs.
The other style of playing Trugo, side swiping, is similar to the action used in croquet. The wheel is put in front of the player who hits it from side on.
Traditionally, 'side swiping' was used by both men and womem as the main technique for hitting the wheel. However over time the 'tunneling style' has been adopted by the men as a more accurate way to hit the wheel.

The game is divided into halves, with one half of each team playing in the first half and the other in the second. Two players of the same team then have 4 wheels to hit down the court, when their wheels have been hit, the other two team members start.
Usually a game will last about one and a half hours and is played on Thursdays at midday between August and April.
The game of Trugo is open to men and women of all ages.
