Back to Volunteer Charter Introduction Page Current Draft Volunteer Charter 20 June 2001 |
The urban and rural volunteers on the Volunteer Charter Steering Committee met on Sunday 21 January 2001 at CFA HQ and again by telephone link up on 30 January to formulate the first draft of the Charter. The first cut was distributed to brigades for comment on 12 February and brigades will have until 12 April to give input into this important document. “The draft has been developed by the volunteers on the steering committee and they feel it is an important step forward in creating the future for volunteers,” said Ron Hooper, Captain Echuca Fire Brigade. “The steering committee members are seeking the broad endorsement by volunteers for this document.” The steering committee realise that some people may want to change the words but what they are looking for is feedback about the themes it contains and, more importantly, if any important themes have been missed. It is appreciated that brigades are very busy so response to this document is optional. If you would like to give feedback, you can do so in one of three ways:
“At the meetings, it is important for representatives to speak in support of the Charter if that is their view, said Nev Jones, Captain, Moorooduc Fire Brigade. “Feedback will be welcomed and will be considered in the final report.” Following finalisation by the steering committee, a dialogue between steering committee members and CFA and Government will be conducted with the aim of achieving agreement on the charter. “The steering committee hope the CFA and Government will agree but they cannot speak for them,” said Ian Bennett, Secretary, Gembrook Fire Brigade. “Before the steering committee goes to CFA or the Government, they need to understand the level of endorsement for this charter.” This is a wonderful opportunity to promote volunteerism and CFA volunteers during the International Year of the Volunteer.
