Penguin Banding at Phillip Island Assist in the ongoing research into the Little Penguins at Phillip Island. This is a great way to participate in valuable research. The Penguin Study Group meets at Phillip Island every four (4) weeks. Dates for 2011 are:- February 26, March 26, April 23, May 21, June 18, July 16, August 13, September 10, October 8, November 5, and December 3 Dates for 2012 are:- January 7. Short-tailed Shearwater Banding Expanded Project - fitting Geolocators to track Short Tailed Shearwaters - [details] April-May - each year Above the cliffs of Cape Woolami at Phillip Island the Muttonbird chicks are weighed and banded just before they are fully fledged and leave the nest to fly to Siberia. This is the daylight visit so meet at the car park at 11am, have lunch and get involved in research work with a great group of people . October-November - each year Above the cliffs of Cape Woolami at Phillip Island the adult Muttonbirds are weighed and banded just after they have returned from their winter flight to Siberia. This is the evening visit so meet at the car park at 5pm, bring some food and drink and get involved in research work with a great group of people . Flame Robin Banding at Barooga Join VORG members for the Queens Birthday long weekend camping in the State Forest on the banks of the Murray River while banding Flame Robins in the local orchards in the evenings. Add to the bird list by taking walks through the forest during the day. This research project has been running for over 30 years and everyone goes home having enjoyed the weekend [Flame Robin Banding project details] Everyone is welcome.
