Project:-

Flame Robin Banding     [Photos]

Location:-

Barooga, NSW

When:-

Queens Birthday long weekend, in June, every year since 1972.

Details:-

Members of VORG, their families and friends, either camp in the State Forest adjacent to the Murray River or stay in motel accommodation in Barooga over the Queens Birthday long weekend every June.

Mist nets are set up early every evening in the nearby orange orchards where the Flame Robins are known to roost at night.  Birds caught in the nets are banded, weighed and measured prior to their release.  Spring traps are also used during the day to catch Flame Robins in the forest.

An extensive data base has been developed over the extended life of this project.

In addition to the collection of data the weekend provides a great social gathering with many long and interesting discussions around the camp fire.
