[Survey Details and Data Sheets] Anecdotal evidence suggests that a number of bird species that were once uncommon visitors are now visiting the Melbourne, Mornington and Bellarine Peninsula regions regularly. They are seen in greater numbers and are staying longer, and some may have become breeding residents. VORG has initiated a survey to document the location, seasonal movements, abundance, activity and habitat of selected bird species in the area of study as covered by the Melway Street Directory. The species targeted include the Crested Pigeon, Little Corella, Long-billed Corella, White-winged Chough, Pied Currawong, Grey Currawong and Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo. We are interested in documenting whether changes in weather patterns have affected the distribution of selected bird species. We are also interested in any anecdotal information and comments on when observers were first aware of the specified species coming into the Melbourne region. If you have actual records or approximate dates they will be helpful as they can provide historical back ground information on when they arrived and the distribution of each species. The objectives of our survey are therefore to:
The survey will rely on observers to record their sightings on observation sheets and submit them to the co-ordinator for processing. If you would like to participate in this project please download the Survey Details and Data Sheets. |
