V.O.I.C.E of Australia is a non-profit association of Australians who have created a structure to embrace, uphold and use the previously dormant tools available to us under our Constitutional Monarchy. By constructively using such tools as Citizens Referenda (C.R or CIR) we shall give our government clear mandates regarding our collective will whereupon unjust laws and Acts of parliament can be removed and good laws, that actually benefit us, may be created. VOICE of Australia is a vehicle for voters to constructively use these tools of democracy and put right what has been made wrong. Our first Citizens Referendum is on the GST and the CityLink Tolls, and begins on 27th May 2000. This is without doubt one of the most important political events in Australian history. We the voters, the highest authority in our land, rarely consulted, but always wanting to be heard, will finally speak as we have never spoken before. It is we the voters, not the politicians, who are ultimately responsible for the well being of our society. To survive as a collective we necessarily must evolve as collective and develop our collective political voice into one much more sophisticated than simply voting for a political party. Our collective voice must evolve as with its mode of expression. Only the people can create and maintain a government "of the people by the people for the people" Such governments already exist in other parts of the world. For example in Switzerland for the last 100 years the Swiss have voted on 300 issues of which approximately 50% have been approved. In 1977 the Swiss people rejected a value-added tax and in 1986 they rejected a proposal to join the United Nations. In the USA 23 states have some form of CIR. In Florida the people passed a law to force their government to balance the budget on only 80% of total revenue. In ITALY CIR was used in 1991 to remove existing laws that allowed corruption by criminal elements of political parties and officials. No politicians had the courage to take on such organised and entrenched corruption. The Italians voted a huge 95% "yes" to get rid of the offending legislation. It is now time for Australians to embrace CIR as one of our political tools and responsibilities. We have a (political) responsibility to use this tool to direct and control our politicians and to keep and maintain the integrity of our democracy for future generations. We cannot any longer leave it to politicians to decide for us what we want. It is up to us to tell them what we want and what they must do. Australia has come of political age. Without Citizen's Referenda there is no true democracy, no checks and balances, no true exchange of communications between the elected and the electorate. By becoming a member of VOICE of Australia, which is your voice, you will be helping Australia to become a democracy.
