What is the Collective?

The Victorian N Scale Collective was formed in 1991 by a group of modellers interested in N scale Australian outline (Victoria in particular). The groups aim is to promote and encourage the enjoyment and participation in modelling N scale. This group has now grown to over 50 members Australia wide and has one member in the U.S.A.

How do we achieve this?

The Collective aims to bring people with similar interests in Victorian N scale modelling together as a group and thus encourage friendships and the exchange of information. Meetings are held regularly, usually every 2 months, on generally the second Saturday of the month starting at around 10.00am and finishing approximately at 5.00pm. The meetings themselves are held at various members’ homes covering the entire suburban area.  Recently added is the Friday night get togethers on the opposite months starting at 7.00 pm and finishing at 11.00 pm.

Regular modelling clinics are held were members can gain valuable experience in all forms of modelling. Members also share ideas, display models or seek help on how to complete projects or ideas on new ones. Other activities include videos, slide days, field trips, BBQ’s and prototype information as well as what’s new on the commercial scene or new products available from fellow members.

The meetings themselves are usually of an informal nature and some of the advertised days activities are adhered to, whereas others are just lead by those attending such is the fun on the day.

What are the benefits if you decide to join?

Members are kept up to date through a regular newsletter, which contains prototype information, modelling plans and hints, scenery courses and updates on new products available around Australia.

What has the group made in the way of layouts?

The members have put together a layout based on the new AusTrak standards which are being adopted Australia wide. Each member, if he chooses, can build modules from the handbook and integrate it with other member’s modules thus forming an ever-changing layout. Over 60 modules are under construction or have been completed Australia wide since its inception a few years back.
